Gledswood Homestead & Winery is a unique historic venue with its own winery, only minutes from Sydney, blending heritage charm with modern functionality. Originally established around 1810, Gledswood grew from its early beginning to becoming one of the most excellent venues for weddings, corporate functions, and wine tastings today.
The tale of Gledswood commenced with Gabriel Louis Marie Huon de Kerilleau, who arrived in Sydney in 1794 and was granted the land that would become Buckingham in 1810. He built the original convict lock-up on the property. The estate was later renamed Gledswood by James Chisholm, who constructed the main homestead between 1827 and 1855. Chisholm was a rum merchant who shared an interest in the wine industry with John Macarthur, so he did much to establish the property's vineyard around 1830.
Over the years, Gledswood expanded and further developed the vineyard and gardens and gained a reputation for fine produce, as well as, through its owner, for its contribution to Australia's wool industry. Extensive renovations and enlargements of the gardens took place in the 1870s, which enhanced their reputation.
In the 20th century, Gledswood had a number of changes: a heavy subdivision in 1972 and a tourist farm established by the Testoni family. The property was again redeveloped, with the Testoni family rebuilding the winery and constructing facilities to permit wine appreciation dinners and other events to be held there. Gledswood was listed on the New South Wales State Heritage Register on August 17, 2006, as a site of state heritage significance.
Today, Gledswood Homestead & Winery is lauded for its rustic elegance and its variety of event spaces. There are three function spaces and a convict-built cellar door, with on-site catering to craft events tailored to taste. From wedding ceremonies to conferences and private parties, Gledswood offers a picture-perfect setting that is sophisticated, historic, and ultra-modern.
