About HDM Gallery

Hadrien de Montferrand established the HDM Gallery in Beijing, China, in 2009 with support from Laurent Dassault and Olivier Hervet. Perhaps currently one of the most influential contemporary art galleries based in Beijing, China, it represents an eclectic discipline of painting, sculpture, video, and installation. The gallery puts a lot of focus on introducing Chinese contemporary artists. In 2021, it opened its project space in Paris for an extension in internationality and artistic power.

The gallery's mission revolves around supporting both emerging and established artists. Many of the Chinese artists represented at the HDM Gallery are early career ones, and the gallery is very active in promoting their work internationally. On the other hand, international artists, most of whom are already established, are exposed to the Chinese art world through the exhibitions and collaborations organized by HDM Gallery. This cross-cultural exchange underlines the role of the gallery in connecting the art worlds of China and Europe.

Aside from the regular exhibition program, regular participations at HDM Gallery include Art Basel Hong Kong, Art021 Shanghai, Art Brussels, and Art Geneva. The gallery also publishes academic catalogues and realizes institutional exhibitions, thus furthering its position as a key player in both local and global art markets. Such events make this leading platform in contemporary art stand out even more.

The founders are deeply experienced and passionate about what they do. Hadrien de Montferrand, formerly working for such well-esteemed institutions as ARTCURIAL or the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing, has been playing a founding role in the development of the gallery since the very beginning. Olivier Hervet graduated from Oxford and joined as a partner in 2012; he has been instrumental in developing the network of young collectors, just like his role was during the expansion in China. Laurent Dassault brings in an entrepreneurial background and a deep involvement with the European art scene, further strengthening the ties between Perrotin and international art markets.

HDM Gallery still acts as a bridge between contemporary Chinese and international art, enabling creative dialogues and allowing artists to establish their practices on a global scale. Guided by a dynamic team that enjoys excellent taste in artistic works, the gallery is set to continue playing a major role in both the art collectors' and enthusiasts' worlds.
