Beijing Hanhai Auction Co., Ltd., founded in 1994, is one of the earliest comprehensive auction houses in China. Its core businesses include the auction of cultural relics and artworks. Representative enterprise approved by the Beijing Municipal People's Government, Hanhai is one of the first companies authorized to handle auctions involving first, second, and third-category relics. The company is also the first comprehensive auction institution in China recommended by both the National High People's Court and the Beijing High People's Court.
The mission of the company is to improve the status of Chinese art in the world and to create conditions for cultural exchange between Chinese and international collectors. Since its establishment, Hanhai has striven to build a high-level transaction platform where treasured items are bought and sold, thereby increasing their value. Over these years, an excellent reputation has been built up, including recognition of the auction house's credibility and stringent appraisal procedures, as well as of its extensive client network.
There were more than 100 large and medium-sized art auctions organized under the lead of Hanhai Auction, in which more than ten categories were involved, including but not limited to Chinese painting, ceramics, jade sculpture, and contemporary craft. Remarkably, the transaction value has reached a record high by hitting over 28 billion yuan. The biggest sales include the purchase of Zhang Xian's North Song scroll, which was bought by the Beijing Palace Museum in 1995, and the record sale of the painting by Fu Baoshi during the 2011 autumn auction at 230 million yuan.
More than commercial success, Hanhai Auction actively involves itself in cultural preservation and public welfare. The company has participated in several charity auctions and organized various public exhibitions showcasing important cultural relics from different parts of China. These efforts have contributed to adding to museum collections and encouraging communication among collectors and institutions, both domestically and abroad.
Having built an excellent reputation in many ways to the auction industry, Hanhai has gained many honors. It was awarded as "Model Collective" by the Beijing Municipal Government and often gets other titles such as "Advanced Taxpayer" and "AA"-rated auction company by the China Auction Industry Association. Besides, it's considered one of the leading participants in many key industry organizations, such as the China Auction Industry Association and the Beijing Auction Industry Association.
As one of the leading companies in the auction industry in China, Hanhai Auction continues to set the pace, not only in promoting Chinese art but also in cultural heritage, thereby offering the platform on which the best pieces of art and historical artifacts from collections and investors around the world would meet.
