Located in the heart of Colonia Roma, Mexico City, Madre Café opened its doors in 2019. It was founded by Machu Bros, a group with years of experience in hospitality. The versatility of this place provides an experience for any time of the day—from having breakfast peacefully in their garden to eating with friends beside the fire pits or just enjoying time at the bar while listening to good music in the evening.
It occupies a historically enriched 1932 edifice designed by architects Lewis Lamm Martínez and his father, Lewis Lamm Payne. This eclectic space was constructed for Don Antonio Peláez and his family. Through the decades, this building served many purposes: a residence for the Palma Argüelles and Díaz Peláez families, offices for the National Cinematheque, and the University of London. Today, that storied location serves as the setting for Madre Café, bringing its history into conjunction with a modern café experience.
Madre Café is far from simply offering coffee; it serves coffee with an experience that enfolds each visiting entity in serenity and comfort. The historical backdrop of the café has been reinvented by some very unique and special elements that offer warmth and make one feel welcomed, much like being hugged—what locals and visitors alike prize in one of Colonia Roma's favorite spots.
